How level labels work. A word belongs to a level through a separate membership record, one per standard, each carrying its own source. HSK Guide never merges the lists of two standards or renumbers one into the other — see how the inventories are kept apart.
语法库
Grammar patterns at HSK 6
Each pattern carries its structure formula, a plain-language explanation, sentences that are wrong and why, and a contrast with what it is usually confused with.
- 病句辨析:“把”字句和“被”字句的限制“把”字句、“被”字句的常见错误
主语 + (没/不/能/要)+ 把/被 + 名词 + 动词 + 其他成分
把 and 被 sentences break in the same few places: a bare verb at the end, a negative or modal word put after 把 or 被, and a verb that does nothing to its object, such as 知道, 认识 or 有.
error-analysis - 病句辨析:“不但……而且……”与主语的位置“不但……而且……”的主语位置
主语 + 不但 + 甲,而且 + 乙(主语相同) | 不但 + 主语一 + 甲,而且 + 主语二 + 也 + 乙(主语不同)
With one subject, the subject comes before 不但. With two different subjects, each one follows its own conjunction. The second half must also go further than the first. Both rules are tested constantly in find-the-error questions.
error-analysis - 病句辨析:搭配不当搭配不当(提高、改善、增强……)
提高 + 水平/质量/效率 | 改善 + 条件/环境/关系 | 增强 + 信心/能力 | 加强 + 管理/联系 | 养成 + 习惯 | 发挥 + 作用
In written Chinese a verb and its object are chosen as a pair: 提高水平 and 改善条件, but not 提高条件. Subjects and predicates pair up too: 价格 is 高 or 低, while the goods are 贵 or 便宜.
error-analysis - 病句辨析:否定不当否定不当(“不得不”“防止……不”等)
不得不/不能不 + 动词(=必须) | 防止/避免 + 不希望发生的事(后面不再加“不”) | 否认 + 事实(后面不再加“没”)
Two negatives make a positive: 不得不 and 不能不 both mean “have to”. Verbs such as 防止, 避免 and 否认 already contain a negative, so a 不 or 没 after them reverses the meaning — a favourite trap in find-the-error questions.
error-analysis - 病句辨析:成分多余成分多余(“大约……左右”等)
大约/大概 + 数量(不再加“左右”) | 超过 + 数量(不再加“以上”) | ……的原因是 + 小句(不再加“因为”“造成的”)
Some words already carry a meaning that another word in the sentence repeats: 大约 and 左右 both mean “about”, 超过 and 以上 both mean “more than”, 原因 already means “because”. Keep one of each pair.
error-analysis - “不禁”和“不由得”“不禁”与“不由得”
(情境),主语 + 不禁/不由得 + 动词(笑、哭、想起、感到……)
Both describe a reaction the subject could not hold back — laughing, crying, remembering, feeling. They stand after the subject and before a verb of emotion or perception, and despite the 不 they are not negatives.
emotion - “不料”:出乎意料“不料”
原来的打算/估计,不料 + (主语)+ 意外的情况
不料 opens a second clause reporting something that went against what was planned or expected, usually something unwelcome. It needs a first clause stating the expectation, and it stands before the subject. For a result that confirms expectations, the word is 果然.
contrast - “不至于”“不至于”
主语 +(还)不至于 + 更严重的情况 | ……,至于吗?
不至于 says that a situation will not go as far as a worse outcome: 他只是有点儿累,还不至于生病. What follows it is always the more serious possibility. The positive 至于 appears mostly in the question 至于吗? — “is it really that serious?”
degree - “固然……,但……”“固然……,但(是)……”
甲 + 固然 + 评价/事实,但(是)/可(是)+ 更重要的一面 | 甲固然好,乙也不错
固然 admits that something is true before turning to what matters more. It is an adverb, so it follows the subject — unlike 虽然, which can open the sentence. With 也 instead of 但 it accepts both sides: A is good, and B is fine too.
concession - “鉴于”:说明决定的依据“鉴于……”
鉴于 + 已知情况,(主语)+ 决定/采取 + 措施
鉴于 names a known fact as the ground for a decision or measure that follows. It opens the sentence and belongs to formal writing. For an ordinary cause and effect use 由于; for a supposition use 倘若.
causation - “即便……也……”“即便……,也……”
即便 + 假设(甚至是极端的情况),主语 + 也 + 结果不变
即便 is the written form of 即使. It concedes a supposition — often an extreme one — and the second clause, with 也, says the outcome stays the same. 也 follows the subject of its clause, and 但是 cannot replace it.
concession - “进而”:更进一步“进而”
(先)+ 甲,进而 + 乙(在甲的基础上更进一步)
进而 links a first step to a further step that builds on it: first understand the customer, and from there improve the product. The second step must go beyond the first; for a simple “and then”, use 然后.
sequence - “况且”:补充理由“况且”
理由一,况且 + (主语)+ 又/也/还 + 理由二
况且 adds a further reason in support of a point the speaker is already making, often followed by 又, 也 or 还. Unlike 而且 it cannot pair with 不但, and unlike 何况 it is never used in a “let alone” question.
addition - “索性”:干脆这样做“索性”
(情况不理想),主语 + 索性 + 动词短语(主动选择的做法)
索性 (like 干脆) marks a decision taken outright because the situation leaves no better option: “might as well, simply”. It goes before a deliberate action, never before something that just happens to someone.
decision - “倘若……,就/便……”“倘若……,就/便……”
倘若 + 条件,(主语)+ 就/便 + 结果 | 倘若 + 条件,那么 + 结果
倘若 is a written equivalent of 如果. It introduces a supposed condition, and the result clause takes 就, 便 or 那么 — never 所以, which is for causes that are already true.
condition - “未免”:委婉的批评“未免”
主语 + 未免 + 太/有点儿/过于 + 形容词/动词短语
未免 softens a criticism: “that is rather too…”. It is almost always followed by 太, 有点儿 or 过于 and a negative judgement. It is easily confused with 难免, which means “hard to avoid” and carries no criticism.
degree - “务必”:提出要求“务必”
(请)+ 主语 + 务必 + 动词短语 | 请务必 + 动词短语
务必 means “without fail” and is used to ask or remind someone to do something, very often after 请. It is an adverb between the subject and the verb. It looks like 未必 (“not necessarily”) but means almost the opposite.
modality - “以便”和“以免”“以便”与“以免”
做法,以便 + 希望达到的结果 | 做法,以免 + 不希望发生的事
Both open the second clause and give the purpose of what the first clause describes. 以便 introduces the result you want; 以免 the result you want to avoid. Neither can open the sentence, and 以免 is never followed by 不.

- 晚到三十年的信
A Letter Thirty Years Late
Workers repairing a county post office find a dusty cloth bag of letters posted more than thirty years ago. Old Liu sets out to deliver them all, and one reaches Li Xiuying, who opens an apology from the brother she quarrelled with and has not seen since. Her daughter finds him within a fortnight, and at the Spring Festival the two meet again; a dozen letters in the bag are still unclaimed. About 820 characters inside HSK 1–6.

Forgetting Is Also a Skill
A science essay on forgetting. A nineteenth-century German psychologist memorised meaningless letter strings and found that forgetting is fast at first and then slows; the curve still shapes revision apps. Forgetting keeps the useful from being buried, as the people who forget almost nothing can testify, and spaced revision tells the brain what to keep. About 820 characters inside HSK 1–6.
阅读 10 分钟science - 怎样听专家的话
How to Listen to Experts
A short argument against two easy positions: believing every expert and believing none. Expertise has a field, knowledge gets revised and some experts are selling something; but experts still err less than amateurs inside their field, and disagreement means a question is open, not that every view is equal. The essay ends with three questions to ask of any advice. About 800 characters inside HSK 1–6.

Life in a Courtyard House
An essay on the siheyuan of Beijing’s hutongs: closed walls outside, a quiet courtyard inside, and rooms assigned by age and standing, with the sunny north room for the eldest. Then the decades of crowding, demolition and tower blocks with kitchens but no neighbours, and the restored houses turned into museums and cafés. About 820 characters inside HSK 1–6.

The Neighbourhood Canteen
A report from a neighbourhood canteen for older people who live alone: two meat dishes, three vegetables and a soup, a discount over seventy, and a full room before eleven. Mrs Wang, 76, comes for the soft food and the conversation; staff phone anyone who misses two days. Thin margins, subsidies and home delivery are the open problems. About 810 characters inside HSK 1–6.
阅读 10 分钟society - 在家办公,是好是坏
Working from Home: Gains and Losses
A feature on working from home. Supporters count the two hours of commuting saved, the quiet for focused work and the wider pool of hires; critics list three problems: blurred hours, fewer chance conversations that new staff learn from, and managers who compensate with constant reporting. Companies settle on two fixed office days, and a researcher argues the real variable is how people are managed. About 850 characters inside HSK 1–6.

常见问题
How many words does HSK 6 cover?
HSK Guide's curriculum record for HSK 6 states a cumulative target of 5,000 words, taken from Official HSK examination information — every word up to and including this level, of which 2,500 are new at HSK 6. This figure has been transcribed but not yet verified by an editor against the primary document, and HSK Guide labels it as such wherever it appears. HSK Guide currently holds 2,500 published entries labelled HSK 6, which are the words tagged at this level, so the figure to read them against is 2,500 rather than 5,000.
Is HSK 6 part of the same ladder as the other HSK levels?
HSK 6 belongs to the HSK 1–6(旧版) track. HSK Guide keeps each standard's vocabulary, grammar and level labels in a separate inventory, so a level number in one ladder is never treated as equivalent to the same number in another.
Can I practise HSK 6 for free?
Yes. At HSK 6 that means the 2,500-word HSK 6 list published on HSK Guide, the 18 grammar points filed under this level and the 6 graded texts on this page, all readable without signing in. The dictionary, the character explorer and the radical library are open without an account, and a daily allowance of reviews, quizzes and tutor messages is included on the free plan; Pro removes the daily limits. Published exam sets are abbreviated practice, not full-format examination simulations.
Does HSK Guide have a HSK 6 practice test?
Yes — one practice examination is published at this level. Every item is original material written for HSK Guide. It is not a past paper and is not endorsed by any examination authority.
Is HSK Guide affiliated with the HSK 6 examination?
No. HSK Guide is an independent preparation platform and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chinese Testing International or the official HSK examination authorities. Registration, scoring and the current level requirements are decided by the examination authority — confirm them with your own test centre.
