Where the shape comes from
An old enclosure shape holding 虫, an insect, inside it, from a belief that linked the wind to the small creatures it seemed to stir into life, or carry along, everywhere it blew — the insect dropped from the simplified 风, which keeps only the outer sweep. It names the weather itself in 台风, a typhoon, and extends easily to style, manner, custom, in 风格, style, and 风景, scenery, literally wind and light, the mood a place carries in the air.
