Where the shape comes from

A person kneeling with the head drawn large and marked out on top — the face 首 above a body. The head sense survives only in compounds; the everyday word is now "page", borrowed from a homophone. As a radical it is all head: 头 in the traditional 頭, 题 a topic and so a question, 顶 a summit, 颜 a face, 预, 顺. In simplified writing it is always 页 on the right.
