Where the shape comes from
An eye 目 set on a pair of legs 儿: a person doing nothing but looking. The simplified 见 keeps the same two parts with the eye reduced to a frame and one stroke. It marks seeing and everything that follows from it: 观 to observe, 觉 to become aware, 规 a rule laid down by inspection, 视, 览. The whole word is alive in 看见, 再见 and 意见.
