Where the shape comes from
An animal’s horn, the ridged growth-rings running along its curve from base to point. A knife and an ox shown together with it give 解, to untie, to dissect, to explain, the old scene of a horn being cut free from the animal it grew on, the same care later applied to unravelling a hard problem; and it names the angle or corner a horn’s point suggests in ordinary geometry.
