Where the shape comes from
A plough: the bent handle at the top and, below it, the blade that bites into the soil. (The Shuowen reads the same shape as the sinew of a straining arm.) Either way the graph is effort applied to something, and it marks work and what work produces: 男, 动, 办, 加, 努.
