Where the shape comes from
The step 彳 written over the foot 止 — going a little way and halting, which is how anyone actually travels a road. The full 辵 is never written now: as a component it wraps round the bottom left of a character as 辶, and it marks every verb of coming and going: 这, 过, 还, 进, 送, 远, 近, 道, 边, 迎. Write the enclosing stroke last, in one movement.
