Where the shape comes from

Three slanting strokes, evenly spaced: hair, plumage, or the fine lines a decorator draws. It marks whatever is drawn, patterned or cast as a likeness — 形 a shape, 影 a shadow (which is why 电影 ends in it), 彩 colour, 须 the whiskers of 必须. Wherever you see it, something is being pictured rather than done.
