HSK 4 Practice: Sentence Ordering and 得 Complements

A practice lesson, not official exam material: order clauses by connectors and reference words, then build correct 得 complements around verbs and objects.

HSK 4· HSK 1–4(旧版)18 分钟

What you will be able to do

  • Use time anchors, connectors and pronoun reference to order three clauses.
  • Build verb + 得 + complement sentences when no object follows the verb.
  • Front the object or repeat the verb when a 得 complement and an object occur together.

Find the dependency before choosing the order

This is original HSK 4-style practice, not official exam material.

Ordering example

A. 。 B. , C. 。

Answer: B → A → C. opens the time frame, gives the discovery inside it, and the phone call is the response. Starting with leaves without a clause to govern; placing C before the discovery reverses cause and action.

Connector example

A. 。 B. 。 C. 。

Answer: C → B → A. must contrast with the shopping plan; must follow the problem it turns into a decision.

complements

With no object after the verb: 。。

When an object is present, put it before the verb or repeat the verb: ; . Do not write ✗ , because must stay directly after the verb it evaluates and cannot trap the object between and the complement.

How to work through it

  1. Mark the dependency wordsread

Underline 以后, 才, 马上, 可是 and 所以. Label each one time frame, delayed discovery, immediate response, contrast or result.

  2. Order, then justifyquiz

Cover the answers and order both sets. You earn the point only after naming two dependencies; intuition alone is not the method being practised.

  3. Build the plain 得 framesentence

    Combine 跑 / 快, 写 / 清楚, 睡 / 好 and 准备 / 很认真 as verb + 得 + complement: 准备得很认真. Read each result aloud once.

  4. Repair the object collisionwriting

Repair ✗ 她说得汉语很好 and ✗ 他跑得步很快 in two ways where possible: object first, or repeated verb. Explain why 得 stays attached to the evaluated verb.

  5. Mixed one-minute roundspeaking

In one minute, order one three-clause set and produce two 得 sentences, one without an object and one with an object. Check dependencies first and word order second.
