HSK 4 Practice: Key Details and Listening Inference

A practice lesson, not official exam material: capture changed times, reasons and outcomes, then make only the inference supported by the recording.

HSK 4· HSK 1–4(旧版)18 分钟

What you will be able to do

  • Record who, when, where, change, reason and result in a six-box note grid.
  • Separate an original detail from a correction introduced by 原来, 后来 or 改到.
  • Choose an inference only when a specific phrase in the recording supports it.

Listen for the update, not the first number

This is original HSK 4-style practice, not an official paper or a claim of full syllabus coverage.

Before the audio starts, reduce the question to one target: time, person, place, reason, change, or result. During the first listen, write only that target and any correction word: , , , , , . During the second listen, confirm the relation between the details.

Example 1

:? :,,。 :?

Answer: . The trap is , the original plan. marks old information and introduces the current answer. and the delayed train explain the change but do not answer the time question.

Example 2

:? :,,。 :?

Best inference: . The recording never says he cancelled or went home. plus supports delay and continued travel. A good inference adds the smallest possible idea to the evidence.

How to work through it

  1. Build the six-box gridread

Draw six boxes labelled person, time, place, change, reason and result. Read both examples once and place every stated detail in one box; leave a box empty when the recording gives no answer.

  2. First pass: one target onlyaudio

Have a partner read each dialogue once at natural speed. Look only at the question and write one answer candidate. Do not transcribe the dialogue.

  3. Second pass: catch the correctionaudio

Listen again and circle 原来, 后来, 改到, 但是 or 所以 when it appears. Draw an arrow from the old detail to the new one.

  4. Evidence or imagination?quiz

For Example 2, reject these claims aloud: 他不来了, 他忘了时间, 他正在坐地铁. For each, say which word is missing or contradicted. Then defend 他会晚一点到 with the two phrases that support it.

  5. Once-only final roundaudio

After the two-pass scaffold, have a partner read one new original dialogue once only, with no replay. Answer immediately, then cite the phrase you used. The one-play constraint belongs to this final practice round; the earlier two listens teach the method.
