知道自己做错了，向别人说"对不起"
道, to say aloud — the same 道 as in 道谢, to voice thanks — put in front of 歉, the regret of 抱歉. Where 抱歉 names the feeling, 道歉 is the act that follows it: 向他道歉, to offer him an apology, with 向 marking who receives it.
