拼音
- kǒu (third tone, dipping)
mouth; an opening or entrance; measure word for members of a household
Mnemonic
An open mouth squared off by the brush, and the box stays empty: put one bar inside and you have the sun 日, two bars and you have the eye 目. It is written in three strokes, never four — the top and right side are one stroke. Counting a family in 口 is counting mouths at the table: 我家有三口人.
A memory aid written by HSK Guide editors. It is not an etymology and does not describe the historical origin of the character.
