Where the shape comes from
A fish seen from the side, head at top, the body’s scales marked in the middle, and the fanned tail at the bottom worn down over time into four dots. Water added beside it gives 渔, to fish, fishing, the activity rather than the animal; and paired with 羊, a sheep, it gives 鲜, fresh, delicious, the two meats a household most prized for their freshness combined into the word for the quality itself.
