部首 1286 画1 汉字

Where the shape comes from

An ear: the outer rectangle is the rim, the two strokes inside the folds of the lobe and canal. It names the organ in 耳朵 and marks hearing in 取, 职, 联 — and in the traditional 聽 "to listen", whose simplified form 听 rebuilt the character around the mouth instead.
