Where the shape comes from
A crescent with two marks inside it — drawn as a crescent precisely so that it could never be taken for the round 日. Because its phases measure out the month, the same graph names the month: 三月, 一个月. One warning that saves a great deal of confusion: the 月 in 脸, 脚, 胖 and 有 is the flattened meat radical 肉, not the moon.
