3 sections, 36 questions, 85 minutes of section time.
Fourteen recordings, most of them short exchanges. In this practice section each recording plays twice and cannot be paused or rewound. The answer is usually a conclusion rather than a word you hear, so track who says what and watch the small words — 只, 除了, 才, 还是 — that decide the outcome.
Audio rules for this section
Fourteen items: gap filling, notices and short passages, matching and sentence building. Read to the end of the passage before choosing — at this level the last clause often overturns the first, and several wrong options are copied straight out of the text.
Eight items in two halves. In the first four, put the pieces in order to make one correct sentence. In the last four, write the single character that the pinyin in brackets stands for — the syllable alone is not enough, the character has to fit the sentence. Write by hand if you can: recognising a character and producing it are different skills.
Questions, options and answers are not shown on this page — the paper is only meaningful if you meet it for the first time inside the timer.
Before you start
The timer runs on the server, so refreshing will not give you extra time. Listening audio plays a fixed number of times, as set for this practice paper.
