Intermediate speaking practice

A twenty-one-minute speaking workout in three parts: repeat what you hear, describe a scene, then answer open questions aloud. Every prompt is original HSK Guide material for speakers who can already hold a short conversation and now need to keep talking for a minute at a time. This is not an official paper, the timings are HSK Guide’s own practice settings, and each model answer is one good version among many — not the only acceptable reply.

Part 1 — Listen and repeat

You will hear five sentences, longer than at beginner level and built around one grammar pattern each. In this practice section each one plays once; repeat it as closely as you can, keeping the tones, the pauses and — above all — the small structural words. Dropping 把, 但是 or the second 一边 costs more than mispronouncing a syllable.

Part 2 — Describe the picture

Three pictures. The Chinese line under each one tells you what it shows; talk about it aloud for roughly a minute. Build the answer in three steps — say what you see, add detail with 在, 着 or 正在, then step outside the frame with a guess or an opinion. A list of nouns is not a description: every sentence needs a verb.
Part 3 — Answering questions

Three open questions. Answer each one aloud and keep going for at least a minute: state your point, give a reason, add a personal example, then close. Where a question ends in 为什么, half the marks live in that half of the question — an answer that skips it is only half given. The model answers show the length and the shape to aim for, not the only right words.

Timing, audio and how the run is protected

Timed

The timer runs on the server, so refreshing will not give you extra time. Listening audio plays a fixed number of times, as set for this practice paper.

The play count and the seek and pause rules are stored on each section rather than hard-coded in the player, so an editor can change them without a deployment.
