Meanings

  1. due to, owing to, because of

    Because of — the same job as 因为, pitched a register higher, at home in a report or a notice more than a chat. It can open the reason clause (由于天气不好,比赛取消了) or, like a preposition, sit directly before a noun phrase (由于工作原因).
