Meanings

  1. extremely (usually after the adjective: 好极了)

    Marks the top of a scale. Unlike 非常, which stands before the adjective, 极 normally comes *after* it and takes 了: 好极了, 累极了, 高兴极了.

    极 and 非常 sit on opposite sides of the adjective. 非常好吃 puts the adverb first; 极 follows the adjective and closes with 了 — 好吃极了. Putting 极 in front belongs to written or set expressions only.
